How Much Do Tattoos Hurt?

blue

One of the biggest fears of getting a tattoo is the fear of pain. But how much does it really hurt? Everyone has a different tolerance to pain. I can’t say it doesn’t hurt, because it does; just not as much as people think. The fear of pain is usually bigger than the pain itself. Although many of us aren’t particularly fond of pain, the glory of having a beautiful tattoo outweighs the tiny needle stick here and there.

The question is also, what do people compare the feeling of getting a tattoo to? Some people say the feeling was annoying, some describe it as a hot and scratchy. . But most of all  say it was not nearly as bad as they feared.

As I was saying, the fear of pain, associated with getting a tattoo, is always bigger than the pain itself. If you have a fear of needles or blood, you have to prepare yourself before going to the tattoo studio and get a tattoo. First of all, keep in mind that tattoo needles aren’t like ordinary needles. Also, they don’t reach as deep as you probably imagine, it only goes in about 1/16 of an inch; now imagine how insignificant that is. The damage, done to your skin is so¬†negligible that most people don’t bleed at all, or very little. If you usually faint or feel unpleasant when you see needles and blood, you have to consider getting a tattoo somewhere on the body, where you won’t have to watch your tattoo being done. This can help some to overcome the apprehension, by not actually seeing the needle or blood.

Another advice is to learn as much as you can about tattoos and how the whole process of getting one looks like. If you are well prepared, you already know what’s going on, know all the instruments, you probably feel much more relaxed and less anxious. Being well informed and well educated is probably the best thing you can do before stepping into a tattoo studio.

If you are less tolerant to pain, you should see the pain chart below, before you decide where on your body is the best place for your new tattoo.
